Rex E. Schlaybaugh Jr. has been elected to a third term as chair and chief executive officer of Dykema. The Michigan-based firm has offices in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Merrick C. Hayes, founding partner in the Bloomington firm of Hayes, Hammer, Miles & Cox, retired in late December and began planning a move to his home in Hilton Head, S.C. He is a past chair of the former ISBA Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Section Council.
Hayes settled in McLean County in 1962, two years after he graduated from the Drake University Law School. Three other name partners – Don C. Hammer, Frank Miles and A. Clay Cox – continue in the firm.

The St. Louis-based firm of Husch & Eppenberger announced Dec. 20 that it will complete its merger with Blackwell Sanders of Kansas City by the end of this month.
With 630 attorneys, the combined commercial litigation and business service firm will rank in the top 100 nationally in revenues. It will have offices in Peoria, Belleville, four other states, Washington, D.C., and London.
