ConCon info forums slated

Two additional informative breakfast forums in the series on the question, “Should Illinois Citizens Call a Constitutional Convention?” have been scheduled at the Union League Club of Chicago.

The free programs will be conducted from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays, April 10 and May 15, by the ULCC Public Affairs Committee and the Civic Federation. Call (312) 435-5946 for reservations.

Panelists who will discuss procedures, structures and potential subjects for consideration at such a convention will include former delegates to the 1970 ConCon.

Specific topics of the two presentations are: April 10, State and Local Government Finances; May 15, Education Funding and Reform Issues.

John Marshall Law School Prof. Ann M. Lousin, who was a research assistant during the 1970 convention, is moderator of the ULCC forums.

The ISBA Assembly will determine, during its June 28 meeting in St. Louis, whether the state bar association should take a position on calling for a Constitutional Convention in 2010.

ISBA section councils and committees have been requested to study the issues and make recommendations in support or opposition. The ConCon question will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 4.
