CurriculumDual-degree grad earns fellowshipWhen Andrew R. Roszak earns his degree in May from the Southern Illinois University School of Law, he will begin a year-long David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship. A dual-degree graduate student, he also will receive a master’s degree in public administration. The former Kankakee firefighter and paramedic has been an intern with the Illinois Department of Public Health in Springfield for 15 months, drafting and revising administrative rules for various programs. He received a bachelor’s degree in fire service management from the Chicago Fire Academy in an SIU off-campus program. He has expressed an interest in formulating health policies that deal with emergency responders. Roszak’s fellowship, one of only two granted this year, will provide an opportunity to learn about the political system through exposure to public and private sector roles in health policy development. SIU hears bioethicistAmy H. Haddad will be the Bioethicist-in-Residence next month at the Southern Illinois University School of Law. She will give a public lecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, and participate in session through April 4. Sunstein heading eastUniversity of Chicago Law Prof. Cass Sunstein, a prolific author, will leave the faculty and begin teaching constitutional law at Harvard Law School in the fall. He plans to maintain his Chicago law school office and teach here during winter semesters. A 1978 Harvard law graduate, Sunstein also will head Harvard’s new risk regulation program on approaches to terrorism, climate change, natural disasters and other hazards. He became a member of the Chicago faculty in 1981 after clerking for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. He is head of a Chicago Judges Project that analyzes votes of federal appeals court judges for patterns. Gift honors professorA cousin of John D. Colombo, the Albert E. Jenner Jr. Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law, has provided a $1.3 million annuity trust gift in his honor. The gift will create a John D. Colombo Professorship and several need-based June E. Michael and John D. Colombo scholarships. Student achievementS. Asra Husain, a second-year student at the University of Illinois College of Law, has been named president of the National Democratic Law Students Council. She was treasurer for the past year. D.C. admission setCook County Judge Anthony A. Iosco of the 3rd Municipal District is organizing an opportunity for interested attorneys to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court on June 16, 2008, in Washington, D.C. The ceremony is open to only 20 attorneys, each of whom must have been admitted to the Illinois bar for three years. The paperwork must be filed by May 1.
