ISBA co-sponsors two Law Day programs May 1

Two ISBA committees are co-sponsors of a Law Day luncheon and program, “Modern Day Slavery,” in which Douglass Cassel will be the speaker on Thursday, May 1, at the Standard Club, Chicago.

The CBA Human Rights Committee and ISBA Committee on Women and the Law and Committee on Minority and Women Participation will conduct the focus on the forcible procurement, control and trafficking of people for involuntary servitude and sexual exploitation.

Cassel, director of the Center for Civil and Human Rights at the University of Notre Dame Law School, is former director of the Northwestern University School of Law Center for International Human Rights.

He will be joined by a Chicago high school student, Clemantine Wamariya, to share her experience as a survivor of genocide in Rwanda.

For luncheon reservations at $65 per person, call (312) 554-2056.

After preliminary remarks by program coordinator Scott Gertz of the ISBA section council, John Marshall Law Prof. Ralph Ruebner will be moderator of a panel that includes John Marshall Assistant Prof. Samuel V. Jones, University of Notre Dame Law Prof. Sean O’Brien, and Southern Illinois University Associate Law Prof. Cindy G. Buys, secretary of the International and Immigration Law Section Council.
