Jeanne Reynolds to handle gavels of two bar groups

Without so much as a short respite for rest and revitalization, Cook County Associate Judge Jeanne M. Reynolds will soon be juggling three gavels instead of just two.

President of the North Suburban Bar Association since September, Reynolds will become president of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois on Thursday, June 5.

Although Daniel E. O'Brien is slated for election as NSBA president in mid-June, he will not hold that office officially until the installation dinner in September.

Thus, Jeanne Reynolds faces a three-month summer interim of being the president of two bar associations in addition to handling the daily judicial call for Calendar 98 of the Expedited Child Support section of the Domestic Relations Division.

Reynolds had been an associate judge for only two months when her turn to head the North Suburban Bar came around last June. She had run for circuit court in the 2004 primary, then became a finalist for an associate judgeship in 2005 before making the cut in April 2007.

A 1986 graduate of the Loyola University School of Law with hopes of becoming an assistant state's attorney, she instead joined Reynolds & Reynolds, the Northfield law firm of her father, Frank R. Reynolds Jr., and her late grandfather.

In an interview with the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Jeanne Reynolds described her dad's style: "Here's a problem. Figure it out. Call me if you need help, but figure it out."

She said it had been "a wonderful way for me to learn," and that advice may still hold true for a daughter who will be president for a short time of two bar associations.

As incoming head of the Women's Bar, Reynolds will succeed Chicago attorney Karen McNulty Enright of Winters, Enright, Salzetta & O'Brien, a member of the ISBA Committee on Legislation and Committee on Amicus.

The 94th annual WBAI installation dinner will take place at the Chicago Hilton. Call (312) 341-8530 for reservations.
