Law as a second languageISBA members are being invited to make differences in the lives of Illinois students, and to expand the potential for diversity in the profession, by going back to school and speaking about law-related subjects. "ISBA Lawyers in Classrooms," an informal initiative of the Committee on Law-Related Information for the Public, will consist of a database of volunteers that can be searched geographically by teachers. The list will be posted at http://www.isba.org/lawyersinclassrooms to serve as an ongoing resource for educators who are looking for speakers on specific subjects. Announcements will be sent to schools around the state. Volunteer lawyers will make presentations of 30 to 60 minutes on requested topics that range from rules and substantive practice areas, to constitutional issues and the Bill of Rights, to becoming a lawyer. ISBA members can sign up, or obtain additional information, by visiting the above Web site. A form can be downloaded, filled in and faxed to committee liaison Donna Schechter at (217) 525-9063.
