Traffic Court Conference slated June 5-6 in Peoria

The 43rd annual Illinois Traffic Court Conference, co-sponsored by the Illinois State Bar Association, will take place Thursday and Friday, June 5-6, at Bradley University in Peoria.

Advance registration by May 30 for the two-day conference is $90, which includes materials, breakfast and lunch both days, and a Thursday night dinner at the Hotel Pere Marquette. Late registration is $100.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. June 5 with registration and continental breakfast. Introductory remarks at 9:45 a.m. will be provided by Jerome A. Zienty of Addison.

At 10 a.m., Judge Frederic Rodgers of Golden, Colo., will discuss Search and Seizure: 4th Amendment. Lunch will follow at 12 noon.

After introductions at 1 p.m. by George Burnetti of Libertyville, New and Pending Legislation will be reviewed by Jerome Zienty.

At 1:45 p.m., J. Randall Cox of Feldman, Wasser, Draper & Benson, Springfield, a member of the ISBA Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council will speak on Professional Responsibility.

At 3 p.m., William G. Raysa of Raysa & Zimmerman, Park Ridge, will cover Seizure and Impoundment: Municipal Ordinance.

Fred M. Morelli Jr. of Aurora will discuss Vehicle Forfeiture Issues from 3 p.m. until adjournment at 4 p.m.

The reception and dinner at the Pere Marquette will begin at 6 p.m.

The conference will resume at 9 a.m. Friday with welcoming remarks by G. William Richards of Aurora and Kevin Golden of Bradley University.

A DUI and Summary Suspension Panel will follow at 9:15 a.m. with Edward M. Maloney of Ahern, Maloney & Moran, Skokie, Traffic Laws and Courts Section newsletter editor, as moderator.

Section council members Thomas M. Moran of the Skokie firm and 18th Circuit Judge Mark W. Dwyer of Wheaton will be panelists, along with Charles W. Smith of Smith & La Luzerne, Waukegan.

At 11:30 a.m., Comparison of Breath Testing Machines: HGN Litigation Update will be presented by Ronald Henson of Peoria. Lunch will follow at 12:15 p.m.

Cook County Judge Daniel M. Locallo, a member of the ISBA Criminal Justice Section Council, will review 2007-08 Traffic Related Decisions from 1:15 p.m. until the conference concludes at 2:30 p.m.

Application has been made for 6.5 hours of MCLE credit and 1.0 hour of Professionalism MCLE has been applied for. Attendance by judges has been approved by the Illinois Supreme Court.
