Glorioso to head Justinians

Westchester attorney Mauro Glorioso, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors, was installed May 8 as president of the Justinian Society of Lawyers. A formal installation banquet will take place in September.

Other officers are Vice Presidents Donald J. Storino II, Cristina Mungai and Katherine A. Amari; Treasurer Gregg A. Garofalo, and Secretary Dennis J. Beninato.

Mungai, Amari, Garofalo and Beninato are members of the ISBA Assembly. Garofalo also chairs the Young Lawyers Division Council and serves on the Trusts and Estates Section Council.

Mungai is a member of the Tort Law Section Council, and Beninato serves on the State and Local Taxation Section Council and the Committee on Strategic Marketing.

The Justinian Society presented its Gerald Sbarbaro Mentoring Award to past president Salvatore J. Tornatore, and its Anthony Scariano Award to State Rep. Thomas H. Cross III of Joliet.

Zeophus Williams takes reins of Cook County Bar June 19

Chicago attorney Zeophus J. Williams, vice chair of the ISBA Committee on Professional Conduct, will be installed Thursday, June 19, as the 62nd president of the Cook County Bar Association.

Her theme for the year is “Rising to new Heights and Focusing on our Youth: Education and the Juvenile Justice System.”

Williams, who is past chair of the Committee on Law-Related Education for the Public, will take office during the annual banquet in the Hyatt Hotel on Chicago’s Riverwalk.

Deputy supervisor of the county state’s attorney’s Public Interest Bureau Child Support Enforcement Division, she also represents the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services in related matters.

A past co-chair of the Alliance of Bar Association for Judicial Screening, Williams represents the Black Women Lawyers Association on the Alliance executive committee.

Keynote banquet speaker will be Rev. Jeremiah Wright, senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ. He will be introduced by Rev. Michael Pfleger of the Faith Community of Saint Sabina.

Several awards will be given for exemplary service. Recipients include Congressman Danny K. Davis, Judge Diane M. Shelley, Associate Judges Yolande M. Bourgeois and Marcus R. Salone, and retired judge D. Adolphus Rivers.

Others are Lionel Jean-Baptiste, John Fairman, Robert F. Harris, Eddis S. Read, G. Flint Taylor, Howard Wright, Kenya Jenkins-Wright and Roma Stewart.

Women’s Bar honors jurist

The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois presented its Myra Bradwell Award to Appellate Justice Sheila M. O’Brien during its 94th annual dinner on June 5 in Chicago.

Cook County Associate Judge Jeanne M. Reynolds was installed as president, and Carol Marin, NBC-Channel 5 political editor and Chicago Sun-Times writer was keynote speaker.

Also installed were ISBA Assembly member Patrice M. Ball-Reed as first vice president, and Michele M. Jochner of the ISBA Board of Governors as recording secretary.

Other officers are Kathryn Gallanis Matern, second vice president; Deane H. Brown, treasurer, Karina H. DeHayes, financial secretary, and Bridget Healy Ryan, corresponding secretary.

Northwest Bar installs slate

Arlington Heights attorney Richard P. Miller was installed June 5 as president of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association during a banquet at Rolling Green Country Club.

Other officers installed by Presiding 3rd District Judge Joseph J. Urso are Executive Vice President Scott D. Barber, Vice Presidents Lee F. DeWald and Donald J. Cosley, Treasurer Neil H. Good and Secretary Michael A. Meschino. Angela E. Peters is past president.

The association presented a President’s Award for Distinguished Public Service to Prof. Richard S. Kling of the Chicago-Kent College of Law. Neil Good received a Leadership Award, and board member Thomas T. Glasgow earned a Pro Bono Service Award.

Monico is v.p. of 7th Circuit Bar

Chicago attorney Michael J. Monico was installed May 20 as first vice president of the 7th Circuit Bar Association. A partner in Monico, Pavich & Spevack, he is a past president of the Justinian Society and a former member of the ISBA Board of Governors.

Other Chicago attorneys who were installed are Secretary Julie A. Bauer of Winston & Strawn, and Treasurer Howard L. Adelman of Adelman & Gettleman.

The new president of the 7th Circuit Bar is  Indianapolis attorney Bradley L. Williams, who is of counsel to Ice Miller. He is a 1975 graduate of the Indiana University Law School.

Williams chairs the Subcommittee on Attorney-Client and Constitutional Privileges of the Committee on Criminal Tax Penalities of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.

The second vice president is William E. Duffin of Godfrey & Kahn, Milwaukee.

Chicago Bar

The 135th annual meeting of the Chicago Bar Association will take place Thursday, June 19, at The Standard Club. Judge E. Kenneth Wright Jr. will succeed Victor P. Henderson as president.

A gala reception in honor of Wright and CBA Young Lawyers Section chair Michael P. Rohan is scheduled Tuesday, June 24, in the McKinlock Garden of the Art Institute. Call (312) 554-2057.

Nominations will be accepted through July 15 for Justice John Paul Stevens Awards that will be presented by the CBA during a Sept. 11 luncheon.

DuPage County Bar

New officers of the DuPage County Bar Association, who were installed June 5, include President Thomas A. Else and President-elect Kent A. Gaertner, both Wheaton attorneys who serve on the ISBA Assembly. Else also is a member of the Family Law Section Council.

Others are Second Vice President Steven N. Ruffalo and Third Vice President Colleen M. McLaughlin, vice chair of the ISBA Labor and Employment Law Section Council and past president of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers.

DCBA Lawyers Lending a Hand will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in Aurora to pack nutritious meals for Feed my Starving Children.

DuPage Women Lawyers

Illinois Defense Counsel

Gregory L. Cochran of McKenna Storer, Chicago, will be installed Friday, June 27, as president of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

He will succeed Jeffrey S. Hebrank during a dinner at the Union League Club of Chicago. Bruce DuMont of “Beyond the Beltway” will be keynote speaker. A 5:30 reception will precede the 6:30 dinner and program.

Illinois Paralegal

The annual summer dinner cruise of the Illinois Paralegal Association will take place Thursday, July 31, on the “Evening Star.”

Iroquois County Bar

The Iroquois County Bar Association conducted a free, four-week People’s Law School last month at the Watseka Public Library. Topics included disaster insurance, little known traffic laws, and “Meth Labs Among Us,” with State’s Attorney James A. Devine.

N.A. South Asian Bar

The fifth annual convention of the North American South Asian Bar Association will be held Thursday through Sunday, June 26-29, at the Westin Michigan Avenue Hotel, Chicago.

Hosts of the event, titled “Reaching New Heights,” are the Indian-American Bar Association of Chicago and the Pakistani American Bar Association of North America. For details, access www.nasabaconvention.org.

Schiff Hardin will sponsor an opening reception at 6 p.m. June 26 in the Metropolitan Club of Sears Tower. U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald will address a luncheon June 27.

Hina Jilani, Pakistani lawyer and human rights advocate for be keynote luncheon speaker on June 28. The annual banquet that evening will take place in the Grand Ballroom of Navy Pier.

Ogle County Bar

The Ogle County Bar Association has invited members of the Lee and Carroll County Bars, and judicial staffs, to join an outing to a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, July 31, in Milwaukee.

A bus will leave Rochelle Commons at 8 a.m. and make a stop at the Oregon Judicial Center at 8:30 a.m. The game begins at 1:05 p.m. The price of $70 includes ticket, transportation and refreshments on the bus. Call Eric Morrow at (815) 732-6124 for availability.

Peoria County Bar

Michael R. Lied of Howard & Howard will be installed Monday, July 11, as president of the Peoria County Bar Association. The annual meeting will take place during a luncheon at the Hotel Pere Marquette. Call (309) 674-6049.

Lied is secretary of the ISBA Labor and Employment Law Section Council and a member of the Bar Publications Board.

St. Clair County Bar

East St. Louis attorney Jeffrey K. Watson was slated for election June 13 as president of the St. Clair County Bar Association. The meeting took place during the annual golf outing and picnic in Swansea.

Other slated officers are Vice Presidents Charles J. Swartwout and Kevin T. Hoerner, Secretary Robert J. Bassett, and Treasurer Garrett P. Hoerner. James R. Williams is retiring president.

Vermilion County Bar

West Suburban Bar

Getting into a sporting mode for the summer, the West Suburban Bar Association has scheduled a Night at the Races on Saturday, June 28, and a White Sox game Judges Night on Tuesday, July 22.

The Night at the Races will take place at Hawthorne Race Track in Stickney, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Judges Night event at U.S. Cellular Field starts with 5:45 p.m. food service, followed by the 7:11 p.m. game with the Texas Rangers.

Women’s Criminal Defense

Chicago attorney Gayle M. Schor was installed June 5 as president of the Women’s Criminal Defense Bar Association. Judge Anita Rivkin-Carothers officiated at the installation.

Other officers are Vice Presidents Sandra Ramos and Donna Makowski, Treasurer Jayne Ingles, and Secretary Sarah Simonson.
