Involuntary Commitment
Court improperly granted State's petition for continued involuntary commitment, as Respondent testified at evidentiary hearing that he wanted to become a voluntary patient. Mental Health Code requires that trial court address a Respondent's request for voluntary admission, and reversal is required as State failed to present any evidence on facility director's approval or disapproval of Respondent's request, and court failed to address or take any action on Respondent's request. Court was required to at least consider whether any evidence already presented proved that Respondent still necessitated involuntary commitment. (SPOMER and WEXSTTEN, concurring.)
