Plaintiff ran as candidate in Democratic general primary election for judge of circuit court of Cook County, 1st subcircuit, to fill vacancy of judge, but was defeated. In September 2016, Plaintiff filed declarations on intent to be a write-in candidate for vacancy of a different circuit judge, in 1st subcircuit of Cook County, in November 8, 2016 general election. Chicago Board of Elections rejected Plaintiff's write-in declaration. Crawford moved to intervene as a party defendant in proceeding filed by Plaintiff against Chicago Board and County Clerk. As Crawford prevailed in election, issue of Crawford's intervention is not moot. In absence of specific language in Section 18-9.1 prohibiting a candidate from running as a write-in candidate for a different subcircuit position than the one she lost in the primary election, law must be interpreted to permit Plaintiff's candidacy for Hopkins vacancy. (HOFFMAN and ROCHFORD, concurring.)
