Criminal Court
Appellate Jurisdiction
Defendant filed appeal, contending that he in jury's finding that he was a sexually violent person, he was denied his right to fair trial and that evidence was insufficient to prove that he was a sexually violent person. Court entered judgment against Defendant on May 14, 2014. Defendant’s posttrial motion was due on June 13, 2014, but Defendant neither requested nor obtained an extension to file the posttrial motion beyond that date. Thus, circuit lost jurisdiction over the case, which nullified any subsequent court orders and rendered Defendant's notice of appeal untimely.(HARRIS and MIKVA, concurring.)
