Illinois Appellate Court
Civil Court
Guardianship
Court appointed respondent to serve as guardian of the person and estate of her adult son, who became disabled after sustaining a traumatic brain injury from falling down the stairs at his home. Father filed petition to hold mother in criminal contempt for violating court order prohibiting mother from denying son any life-sustaining treatment without first petitioning for court approval and without prior notice to father. Son died one minute after mother requested his physician to withdraw resuscitative efforts, after son had suffered cardiac arrest and 3 resuscitation efforts had failed. (WELCH and OVERASTREET, concurring.)
