Honoring Women and Their Success: How They Accomplish Their Goals and Navigate Their Agenda in a Male Dominated Field
International Women’s Day

This year International Women’s Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.  The Women and the Law Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association will join voices with people around the world to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The Women and the Law Committee recognizes how far we have come towards gender equality – but we have a long way to go

The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911.  Since that time there has been seismic shift towards women’s equality. Today more than 55% of law school graduates are female.  In dental school 51.4% of the graduates are female ( in 1980 they comprised 13.6% of their class). In medical school women comprise 50.5% of their class. In business school 48% of M.B.A. graduates are female. Yet women are still not paid equally to their male counterparts and few have been able to crash that glass ceiling. Women are not represented in equal numbers in sports, business or politics. For instance, in football, women comprise 45% of the audience but what percentage of either the team hierarchy, ownership or broadcasters are comprised of women?

Today we are honored to have a diverse group of successful women.  We honor them today for their successes and we would ask them to speak on how they we able to accomplish their goals and navigate their agenda in such male dominated fields.

Presented by: The Illinois State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Women & the Law.
