Tim Bertschy named Heyl Royster’s Managing Partner

Tim BertschyHeyl Royster announces that ISBA Past President Tim Bertschy has succeeded Gary Nelson as the firm’s Managing Partner. Mr. Nelson will continue at the firm as a shareholder and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Bertschy, who also serves as the chair of the firm’s Governmental and Business & Commercial Practices, said, “I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve Heyl Royster and its wonderful, hardworking team of attorneys during this period of unprecedented growth for the firm.”

Mr. Bertschy began his career at Heyl Royster in 1977. He has tried a broad range of business disputes and has successfully argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Illinois Supreme Court. Most recently, Mr. Bertschy has represented the Regional Transit Authority in a number of tax sourcing cases, and he was successfully nominated by the Securities and Exchange Commission to serve as the Receiver to recover assets in several matters. His litigation experience includes cases involving business torts, business break-ups, stockholder disputes, ERISA, unfair competition, intellectual property, debtor-lender claims, and bankruptcy. He is a former president of the Illinois State Bar Association and has served in the American Bar Association House of Delegates for more than 15 years. He is a past member of the ABA Board of Governors, representing Illinois and Ohio. He is also a past president of the Illinois Township Attorney’s Association, Illinois Equal Justice Coalition, Illinois Equal Justice Foundation, the American Counsel Association, and the Illinois Lawyers Assistance Program. He is currently president of the Central District Chapter of Illinois of the Federal Bar Association and is on the board of the Illinois Bar Foundation. Mr. Bertschy also serves as chair of the United States District Court Advisory Committee on Local Rules (Central District, Illinois). Mr. Bertschy has achieved the highest AV Preeminent ranking from Martindale-Hubbell and has been included in “The Best Lawyers in America” directory in the category of Commercial Litigation since 2010. He has also been designated a “Leading Lawyer” in Illinois by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company and a “Super Lawyer.”
