Carl W. Lee, 90, of Belleville, Illinois, born Monday, November 14, 1927, in Streator, IL, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.

Carl was a self-made man. After graduating from Pontiac (Illinois) High School in 1944, he attended the University of Illinois School of Law working multiple jobs to pay for his education. During his time at the U of I, he was drafted into the Korean War (Air Force Division) and took the Bar Exam before his last year of law school, passing and serving in Portland, OR in the Air Force JAG Corps as a legal consultant. He returned to the University after the war to finish his education, graduating in 1949. Carl remained an avid U of I sports fan his entire life.

Carl was a well respected attorney and spent his law career as partner with the firm Gundlach, Lee, Eggmann, Boyle & Roessler in Belleville. He was a mentor to many young attorneys during his career. His advice and guidance was looked to by many friends and family members throughout his life, and his advice was always right.

Carl was a former Advisory board member at Bankers Trust Co. and St. Clair Country Club, serving as a past president; a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Assoc. and Illinois Bar Assoc.

An avid traveler, Carl most enjoyed time spent at his vacation home in Rancho Mirage, CA. He was well read and continued to educate himself on current world events and political issues. Watching sports, both college and professional, was a favorite past time and he was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Other interests included playing golf and cooking holiday meals for his large family.
