CLE: Cannabis Law - What You Need to Know to Represent Cannabis Businesses and Investors

Cannabis is one of the fastest growing industries in the U.S., but is fraught with numerous legal and regulatory issues that are constantly evolving. This half-day program in Chicago or via live webcast on Sept. 20 offers a multidisciplinary introduction to a number of issues that can arise when representing cannabis business clients and investors, including tax, regulatory/compliance, securities, banking, real estate, and land use.

Health care lawyers, general practitioners, and business/investment attorneys with intermediate practice experience who attend this seminar will better understand: the overall status of cannabis law in Illinois and the U.S.; the history of the Cole Memo and what it means for the cannabis industry; how the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct can impact your practice when representing cannabis clients; how employers should look at cannabis use, even when an employee has a doctor’s note; the tax considerations cannabis businesses and investors need to consider; how the legal status of cannabis affects mortgages and title transfers; the banking regulations and guidelines for the cannabis industry; fundraising for the cannabis business; and how to insure the cannabis business.

The program is presented by the ISBA Health Care Law Section and co-sponsored by the ISBA General Practice Section. It qualifies for 4.25 hours MCLE credit, including 0.50* hour Professional Responsibility MCLE credit (subject to approval).
