Chicago Police Commander Receives Law Enforcement Award from Illinois State Bar Association

Chicago Police Commander Thomas Lemmer received a Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on September 28 at the Chicago Police Department Headquarters. ISBA President James McCluskey presented the award.

The Law Enforcement Award recognizes sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. 

Pinckneyville Police Officer Receives Law Enforcement Award from Illinois State Bar Association

Pinckneyville Police Officer James Holder received a Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on July 17 during a Pinckneyville Police Pension Board meeting. ISBA 2nd Vice President Dennis Orsey presented the award.

The Law Enforcement Award recognizes sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system.

Orland Park Police Chief Timothy McCarthy received the ISBA Law Enforcement Award on July 2 during an Orland Park Village Board of Trustees meeting. ISBA President James McCluskey and ISBA President Elect David Sosin presented the award.

The ISBA Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It recognizes those who excel in law enforcement.

ISBA Presents Law Enforcement Award to Lockport Police Chief

Lockport Police Chief Terry Lemming received the ISBA Law Enforcement Award on June 6 during a Lockport City Council meeting. ISBA Board member Sonni Choi Williams and Lockport Mayor Steven Streit presented the award.

The ISBA Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It recognizes those who excel in law enforcement.

Chief Lemming, who was nominated by Williams, was recognized for co-creating Lockport Love, a non-profit organization that raises money for families in need.

ISBA Presents Law Enforcement Award to O'Fallon Detective

Third Vice President Dennis Orsey and Detective Carl WalkerDetective Carl Walker of the O’Fallon Police Department was awarded the ISBA Law Enforcement Award on August 21 during an O’Fallon City Council meeting at City Hall. Third Vice President Dennis Orsey presented the award.

The ISBA Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It recognizes those who excel in law enforcement.

Detective Walker, who was nominated for the award by Captain Kirk Brueggeman of the O’Fallon Police Department, will be acknowledged for his efforts to automate the information sharing process for the St. Clair County Investigative Professional Group using information technology.

Champ Davis Awarded the Matthew Maloney Tradition of Excellence Award

Mary Anne Gerstner with Champ DavisChamp Davis was awarded the Matthew Maloney Tradition of Excellence Award on Saturday, August 19, at the General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm section council meeting.

The award is named in memory of Princeton attorney Matthew Maloney, who was a past chair of the ISBA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section Council, and whose passion, zealous advocacy, and personal service to the profession and the bar or Illinois are what the award represents. It is awarded to individual lawyers who are in a general solo or small firm practice. To be considered for the award, the member must have been in practice for a minimum of 20 years. 

Champ Davis has devoted his life to the practice of law, exemplifying the highest standards of the legal profession. Champ is a past chair of the Professional Conduct Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section. He serves as an arbitrator for both the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers, and was appointed in 2010 as an arbitrator to hear automobile dealership cases arising under special federal legislation. He is a former adjunct professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he taught a course in Negotiations from 1992-2012.

The award was presented by the section chair, Mary Anne Gerstner. 

Patrick Flaherty Receives Trial Lawyer Excellence Award

Patrick FlahertyISBA member and personal injury attorney Patrick Flaherty has been awarded a 2016 Trial Lawyer Excellence Award by the Jury Verdict Reporter. The annual Jury Verdict Reporter Awards for Trial Lawyer Excellence recognize case and career achievements of Illinois lawyers. Mr. Flaherty was one of only 13 Illinois lawyers to receive a JVR Award for case achievement in 2016. The awards were presented at an invitation-only ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center in downtown Chicago.

Mr. Flaherty is an accomplished trial lawyer who has devoted his professional life to helping victims of negligence and wrongdoing. He has been a partner for many years at Kinnally Flaherty Krentz Loran Hodge & Masur, P.C., a well-regarded personal injury and commercial litigation law firm in Aurora, Illinois. The JVR Award was given to Mr. Flaherty for achieving the largest paraplegia verdict or settlement in Kane County history on behalf of a woman who became paralyzed due to the delayed diagnosis of a thoracic spinal infection. He has also obtained other record setting verdicts and settlements, including the highest birth injury award in Kane County and the highest wrongful death award in Will County.

Hon. James Holderman to receive 2017 Order of Lincoln

Governor Bruce Rauner announced the 2017 recipients of the Order of Lincoln, which is the state’s highest honor for professional achievement and public service. The list includes a Central Illinois man, who was born in Sullivan. This year's recipients include Hon. James Holderman.

The Honorable James Holderman received his J.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Was appointed to serve on the United States District Court. Served as Chief Judge from 2006 to 2013. Initiated innovations to improve the jury trial system. Expanded the Settlement Assistance Program and renovated the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Earned the U.S. Department of Justice Aware for Distinguished Service and the American Inns Court Award for Professionalism and Ethics.

Jennifer Cifaldi Receives National Traffic Safety Award

The National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators (NAPC) has selected Jennifer Cifaldi, Assistant State’s Attorney in Adams County, Illinois, as the recipient of its 2016 National Traffic Safety Prosecutor of the Year Award.  NAPC is the national association of Prosecutor Coordinators and staff who provide leadership, training, legislative advocacy and support services for America's state and local prosecutors.  NAPC, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), annually presents the award to a prosecutor who has worked tirelessly to save lives in impaired driving and vehicular homicide cases.
