IBF to Honor Downstate Attorneys

Posted on April 19, 2018 by Sara Anderson

The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF) will honor Eugenia C. Hunter, Attorney at Law, and posthumously honor Hon. David W. Watt, Jr., 1st Judicial Circuit Court, at a Southern Illinois Fellows reception on Thursday, May 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S. Illinois Avenue in Carbondale.

Tickets are $35 per person. Tickets and sponsorships are available on the IBF website.

Created in 1983, the Fellows Program consists of a special group of lawyers and Foundation supporters who have committed, by direct payment or pledge over ten years, sums of money ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 to support the mission of the IBF.

The IBF raises funds for distribution to Illinois nonprofit organizations whose mission is to provide free legal services to those with limited means. It also provides assistance to lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity. The IBF also oversees the Illinois JusticeCorps program, which provides trained part-time student volunteers to serve as guides in courthouses. This year, the IBF will distribute more than $820,000 in funds.

Volunteer for Ask A Lawyer Day

Posted on March 29, 2018 by Sara Anderson

Not all heroes wear capes. You can make a difference in your community by volunteering for Ask A Lawyer Day, our annual event that recognizes and celebrates Law Day, on April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. As a volunteer, you will answer calls and field general legal questions from Illinois residents. This is a state-wide public relations effort that helps enhance the image of the profession and receives considerable attention from the public and the media.

Volunteers are needed to answer calls at the Illinois Bar Center offices in Springfield*. There are also opportunities to volunteer remotely by answering questions by email. Breakfast and training will be provided for volunteers.

To sign up, complete the Ask A Lawyer Day Sign Up form online. Questions may be sent directly to Sara Anderson

Find Your Balance with YLD

Join the ISBA's Young Lawyers Division on Saturday, April 7, for yoga and brunch at the Chicago Regional Office.

Studies show that practicing lawyers commonly struggle with depression, anxiety, and stress. Carving out downtime to decompress from work-related stress is one way to combat these issues. Physical activity is one of the most effective ways to recover from the demands of a stressful job. This upcoming event is the perfect opportunity to set aside a couple hours to focus on yourself, participate in a relaxing and stress-free yoga class, and enjoy the company of other young lawyers over mimosas and brunch.

Bringing your own yoga mat is encouraged, but not required. All skill levels are welcome.

Online registration is now open. Tickets are $20 and include the cost of yoga and brunch.

Clark Street, Ste. 900 in the morning to walk to the parade as a group at 11:30 a.m. or meet at the parade site. ISBA's position number is #98.
