Last Day to Vote in ISBA Election Is Monday, April 30

Voting is now underway in the 2018 ISBA election. Voting closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 30.

ISBA's election provider Election America e-mailed ballots to members with valid e-mail addresses and mailed paper ballots to members without valid e-mail addresses two weeks ago, on Monday, March 26. The deadline to request paper ballots was last Friday, April 13.

Board of Governors Under-Represented Vacancy to Be Filled

The ISBA president-elect will appoint a member to one of the under-represented seats of the Board of Governors at the May 2018 Board of Governors meeting. The member appointed to this position will serve with full Board member privileges for a three-year term beginning the first day of the 2018 Annual Meeting in Fontana, WI. 

Pursuant to the Association Bylaws, eligible candidates for the under-represented seat include members of the Association with a status of, but not limited to, age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, geography, areas and types of practice, and years of practice. 

The Diversity Leadership Council is responsible for recommending candidates for consideration by the president-elect. All interested members should submit a written self-nomination by email to mburkholder@isba.org no later than April 27, 2018. 

Deadline to Request Paper Ballot in ISBA Election Is Friday

Voting is now underway in the 2018 ISBA election, and the last day to request a paper ballot is this Friday, April 13.

ISBA's election provider Election America e-mailed ballots to members with valid e-mail addresses and mailed paper ballots to members without valid e-mail addresses two weeks ago, on Monday, March 26.

Only attorney members who have paid their dues by March 1, 2018 are eligible to vote. Voting ends at 4:30 p.m. CT on April 30.

Tort Law Section Presents Hot Topics in Trial Webinar

The ISBA Tort Law Section Council presented a webinar, Hot Topics in Trial:Jury Selection and Jury Questions, on Wednesday, April 4. Jurors ultimately decide the fate of a case, which makes jury selection one of the most important parts of a jury trial. During the webinar, attorneys and judges discussed what is the most important issues in jury selection and jury questions.

2018 High School Mock Trial Invitational

The 2018 ISBA High School Mock Trial Invitational, which is co-administered by the ISBA and the Illinois Trial Team of the University of Illinois, took place on March 24-25 at the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign. First place went to the St. Charles North Mock Trial Team from St. Charles North High School. They will be competing at the National High School Mock Trials in Reno, Nevada in May.

Voting Underway in ISBA Election

Voting is now underway in the 2018 ISBA Election.

ISBA's election provider Election America emailed e-ballots to members with valid email addresses and mailed paper ballots to members without valid email addresses today, Monday, March 26. The last day to request a paper ballot will be Friday, April 13. 

Only attorney members who have paid their dues by March 1, 2018 are eligible to vote. 

There are three contested seats this year: third vice president, Board of Governors, First Judicial District — Cook County, and Board of Governors, Area 8 — Judicial Circuits 3 and 20. All members may vote for third vice president. Members may also vote for any office that falls in the geographical area of their ISBA address.

Comments Sought on Proposed Succession Rule

A signature project of ISBA President Hon. Russell W. Hartigan (ret.) is to address a situation where a lawyer becomes disabled or is otherwise no longer able to provide legal services to his or her clients. Oftentimes, but particularly with respect to solo practices, no one is prepared or competent to step in and protect client interests or the disabled lawyers’ business interests.
