Stanley Philip Hutchison 1923-2016

Stanley Philip HutchisonStanley Philip Hutchison, 92, passed away peacefully, comforted by his family, on October 18, 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mr. Hutchison enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a business and civic leader. He was born in Joliet, Illinois on November 22, 1923, the first son of Verna Emma and Philip Stuart Hutchison. His early life was spent in Springfield, Illinois. He attended Knox College (Galesburg, Illinois), where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. During WWII, he served as a Lieutenant JG in the US Navy. Following his military service, he finished his undergraduate work at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and received his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law/Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, Illinois) where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi, the International Legal Honor Society. 

Peter R. Sonderby 1941-2016

Peter R. SonderbyPeter R. Sonderby - formerly of Chicago, and most recently residing in Grand Beach, MI and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, after a year-long struggle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years the Honorable Susan Pierson Sonderby (Ret.) of Grand Beach, MI and Naples, FL; daughter Kathleen (Richard Ross) Sonderby of Mill Valley, CA, son Christopher (Jill) Sonderby of Menlo Park, CA, and daughter Jennifer (Seth Blacher) Sonderby of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Eliza, Lauren and Graham Ross, Max and Madeline Sonderby and Ari and Leo Blacher; brother Michael (Pam) Sonderby of Naples, FL; sister-in-law Tina Sonderby of Long Beach, IN; and nieces and nephews Brett (Lisa) Sonderby, Amy (Jeff) Kontir, Max (Glaucia) Sonderby, Elizabeth Sonderby and Robert (Carol) Sonderby. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Max E. and Mary E. (Sjostrom) Sonderby, and his brother Stephen Sonderby.

Kent Bronson Hampton 1920-2016

Kent HamptonKent Bronson Hampton, former vice president and general counsel of Marathon Oil Co. passed away early Saturday, July 23, 2016. Born in Mattoon, Il in 1920, he grew up in Evanston. He graduated from ETHS in 1938, and from Grinnell College (Iowa) in 1942. He graduated from the Navy's OCS at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in 1943 and served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres in WWII as a navigator aboard an amphibious craft and a destroyer escort. He earned a law degree from the University of Michigan in 1949. He joined the Ohio Oil Company (now Marathon Oil Co.) in 1951. His most notable accomplishment was to lead the legal team that thwarted Mobil Oil Co.'s attempted takeover of Marathon in 1981-82. Mr. Hampton first engaged in law practice in Charleston, IL in 1949. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association for sixty years.

Lauren Boaz Becomes Partner at SWMK Law

Lauren Boaz was named a partner of SWMK Law as of July 1. She is the first of the firm’s attorneys to become partner since their founding in 2012. Founding partners of the firm are Ben Schmickle, Steve Wohlford, Matt Morris, and Joe Kusmierczak.

SWMK Law specializes in mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer litigation, and has a nationwide client base. Boaz leads the SWMK team that seeks recovery for mesothelioma clients from bankruptcy trust funds.

James Herget 1934-2016

James HergetJames Elbert Herget, 81, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in Kerrville.

He was born in 1934 in Pekin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loraine and Walter Herget of Pekin; and two brothers, Walter and Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen of Kerrville, Texas; three daughters, Catherine Carter Willard of Asheville, N.C., Margaret Dawson and Grace Capwell, both of Round Rock, Texas; two sons, William of Kerrville and Charles of Frisco, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
