Burl Forbes Nader 1921-2018

Burl Forbes Nader, 97, died Monday, June 11, 2018, at Libertyville Manor. He was born May 14, 1921, in East Alton, Ill., and was a Libertyville resident since 1950. 

He was a graduate of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and the University of Michigan Law School. Burl was a Libertyville attorney for many years and a member of the Lake County Bar Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was past commander and finance officer for the Libertyville American Legion Post #329 and also a member of the Libertyville VFW Post #8741. Burl was an active member of the Gardeners of Central Lake County and served on the board of directors for Lakeside Cemetery Association.

PILI Announces Sarah J. Taylor as New Program Manager

Carbondale attorney Sarah J. Taylor recently became program manager for the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI).  

She will be based in Champaign and oversee PILI’s pro bono program statewide, including PILI’s Pro Bono Initiative, Judicial Circuit Pro Bono committees, and new pro bono opportunities such as the Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panel and the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network.

Since 2004, Sarah has been an associate attorney with the Carbondale law firm Barrett, Twomey, Broom, Hughes & Hoke, LLP. Her practice areas have included probate, real estate, estate planning, family, civil litigation, property tax appeals, and small business representation. She has also represented Illinois in eminent domain cases as a special assistant attorney general. Additionally, she has been an adjunct law professor at Southern Illinois University School of Law, where she received her law degree, since 2010. 

PILI Joins Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network

The Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) recently announced that the organization is a member of the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN). 

IL-AFLAN provides civil legal services across Illinois to veterans, active duty military and their spouses and dependents. It is a network comprised of legal aid organizations and law school clinics across Illinois. Support for PILI’s participation in IL-AFLAN is underwritten by the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation.

John J. Mazzorana 1943-2018

John J. Mazzorana, 75, died May 27, 2018, in New Lenox. He was born May 14, 1943, in Chicago. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Elsie Mazzorana, and his wife, Claudia.

John is survived by his loving children, Vicki Mazzorana, Michelle Stokes (Roy), Katherine Wilson, Jason Mazzorana (Angie) and Anthony Mazzorana; his beloved grandchildren, Jacob Wilson, Madeline Wilson and Gianna Mazzorana; his brother, Dennis Mazzorana (Therese); his caring companion of many years, Sandy Meinke; and her daughter, Amanda Wrobel; as well as many nephews and nieces.

Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. today announced the addition of attorney Heidi L. Wickstrom to the firm’s legal team. 

Wickstrom, who spent 11 years with New York’s Pillersdorf Law Firm, will be joining Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard as an associate, focusing her practice in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability, personal injury, and wrongful death cases. 

During her time with Pillersdorf, Wickstrom assisted in obtaining many multi-million dollar recoveries for clients; namely, a $15.7 million verdict for the plaintiff in a case against Consolidated Edison of New York; and $10 million and $5.4 million verdicts, respectively, for two plaintiffs in cases against the New York City Transit Authority.

Attorney Pamela L. Cox has been appointed to the board of directors for the Licensing Executives Society International. 

She is the chair of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP’s IP transactions practice in Chicago. She is recognized as one of the country’s leading licensing authorities, particularly in the life sciences. 

Cox received the LESI President’s Award for Individual Service, recognizing her years of outstanding leadership and service as chair of the LESI Life Sciences Committee. She has held additional leadership roles in LESI and LES USA/Canada, including serving as vice-chair of LESI’s external relations committee; founder of LESI’s Life Science Advisory Board; international delegate for seven years to LES USA-Canada; and chair of the LES USA/Canada Chicago chapter.
