Richard Pullano to Be Installed as North Suburban Bar Association President

Richard PullanoISBA member Richard Pullano will be installed as the North Suburban Bar Association's 49th president on Wednesday, September 13.

Mr. Pullano, a partner at Pullano Law Offices, is an experienced litigator with a track record of successful results for hsi clients. He lectures throughout the state on topics relating to tort litigation and is an adjunct professor at the Depaul University College of Law. Heearned his J.D. from DePaul University and his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

The annual installation dinner will be held at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview at 6:00 p.m. 

Jon Anderson and Robert Boszko Named Leading Lawyers for Illinois

Jon AndersonThe Leading Lawyers Network has recognized firm owner and ISBA member Jonathan G. Anderson of Anderson & Associates as one of its 2017 Leading Lawyers for Illinois. Senior Associate Attorney Robert J. Boszko was also named a 2017 Emerging Lawyer.

The Leading Lawyers Network annually honors the top attorneys by state and practice area, based on peer nominations and independent evaluations. A Leading Lawyer can be of any age or experience, while Emerging Lawyers are those who are 40 or younger or have practiced for 10 years or less. The organization is highly selective in awarding each distinction. Less than five percent of the attorneys in each state are named Leading Lawyers, and less than two percent are named Emerging Lawyers. Leading Lawyers is a division of the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.

Jenny Austin Hired as Tax Controversy Partner at Morgan Lewis

Jenny AustinISBA member Jenny Austin joined Morgan Lewis as a partner in Chicago. Ms. Austin is a skilled federal tax controversy lawyer and seasoned tax litigator. 

Ms. Austin assists clients in all stages of tax controversies, from U.S. Internal Revenue Service examinations through administrative appeals, alternative dispute resolution proceedings, and litigation before state tax courts and the U.S. Tax Court. Ms. Austin has represented clients in all aspects of transfer pricing, including cross-border transfer pricing of tangible assets and intellectual property and other intangible assets, services, and cost sharing agreements. She also advises taxpayers worldwide on issues such as U.S. tax obligations and international tax implications of offshore operations, as well as withholding, excise tax, and information reporting responsibilities.

Thomas V. Linguanti Joins Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as Partner

ISBA member Thomas V. Linguanti, a leading federal court tax controversy trial lawyer, recently joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP's Chicago office as a partner. Mr. Linguanti, a former trial and appellate attorney in the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice, was the leader of the North American tax practice at his previous global law firm. His arrival brings additional recognition to the firm’s already top-ranked, market-leading tax practice.

Mr. Linguanti advises individual and corporate clients worldwide in developing strategies in disputes with the US Internal Revenue Service during audits, alternative dispute resolution proceedings, and trial and appellate litigation. He has represented tax clients before numerous federal courts and the US Tax Court and was the lead lawyer in Medtronic Inc. v. Commissioner, in which the court’s ruling slashed the medical device company’s tax deficiencies from $1.36 billion to $14 million in a transfer pricing dispute involving its Puerto Rico operations. The case is on appeal to the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, with Mr. Linguanti as lead counsel.

Mr. Linguanti speaks frequently on federal tax controversy issues and negotiation strategies. He is also a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, teaching advocacy skills to government, public interest, and private firm lawyers.

Shannon E. Buckley, who also joins the Chicago office, focuses her practice in Commercial Litigation and Business Disputes, as well as Medical Negligence and Healthcare. She received her J.D. cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in 2017 and her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2013.

Robert C. Rakers joins Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP’s Madison County (Edwardsville) office. He focuses his practice on Asbestos Litigation, Toxic Tort Litigation, Product Liability, and General Trial Practice. Rakers received his J.D. in 2013 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and his B.A. in 2010 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Elizabeth Ellis Joins Botto Gilbert Lancaster

ISBA member Elizabeth M. Ellis recently joined Botto Gilbert Lancaster's McHenry County office. She will focus her practice in the areas of family law, family mediation and estate planning.

Attorney Elizabeth M. Ellis graduated from Loyola University, Chicago, in 2001 with a bachelor of science degree. She earned her law degree from DePaul University, graduating in 2003 with a certificate in the law of taxation. Ellis was admitted to the bar in Illinois 2005 and the Northern District of Illinois in 2012.

Prior to joining Botto Gilbert Lancaster, PC, Ellis maintained a solo legal practice concentrating on the areas of family law, family mediation, estate planning, and tax matters. Her professional history also includes experience as a tax advisor and financial planner. For several years she served her alma mater, directing business operations for Loyola University’s College of Arts and Sciences, while providing career direction to students as a pre-Law advisor and adjunct instructor.

Margaret Walsh Elevated to Associate at Chuhak & Tecson, P.C.

Margaret WalshISBA member Margaret M. Walsh was elevated from staff attorney to associate at Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., where she started as a law clerk. Walsh’s practice includes secured lending, commercial real estate, and corporate transactions. She spends a majority of her time conducting diligence along with negotiating and drafting documents for secured finance transactions for commercial real estate, asset and stock purchases, and construction. When Walsh isn’t working on a financial transaction, she provides legal advice to business owners in entity structuring and ownership issues and prepares organizational documents and agreements.

Walsh received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Governors State University.

Ariane M. Janz Joins Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC

ISBA member Ariane M. Janz recently joined the Chicago office of Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC. 

Ms. Janz concentrates her practice in civil litigation with an emphasis on commercial disputes and business & corporate law.

Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Ms. Janz served as a law clerk for the Honorable C.J. Williams, Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Iowa.  As a law student, she gained extensive experience as a summer associate at an Am Law 100 firm, as an intern in the Economics Section of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, and as an intern at a German law firm specializing in business law in Cologne.  Ms. Janz is a native German speaker.

Ms. Janz received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Syracuse University in 2011, and her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2015 where she served as an articles editor for The Journal of Corporation Law. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and Minnesota.

Ms. Bart's practice focuses on estate and gift tax planning, trust and estate administration, charitable planning, and fiduciary counsel. Her clients include wealthy individuals and families, family business owners, corporate executives, banks and trust companies, trustees and executors, and private foundations.

Susan is a fellow, regent, and former Illinois state chair of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC), the leading national association for trust and estate lawyers. She was the Reporter of the Uniform Trust Decanting Act, which is now being enacted in several states. She has also been active in Illinois trust law legislation.

A recognized industry thought leader, Susan has written extensively on trust and estate law topics with more than 30 published articles and two books.
