Mrozek leads Hinshaw's new consulting and coaching services

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced today that it has launched a Consultants and Coaches for the Profession Practice™. The new practice will focus on helping law firm leaders address complex business- and management-related challenges and opportunities involved in effectively managing their firms.

Chicago-based partner Donald L. Mrozek — who served as Hinshaw's chairman from 1989–2015 — will lead the practice. Under his watch, Hinshaw grew from a small Chicago-area law firm to a national firm with 25 offices, approximately 500 attorneys and more than $225 million in revenues.

Attorney Michael Pisano Joins Ice Miller’s Litigation Group

He concentrates his practice in prosecuting and defending civil litigation matters.  Michael represents clients in a wide variety of litigation matters with an emphasis in representing professionals in the construction area including owners, developers, designers and general contractors.  He also has experience in defending consumer claims brought against clients in regard to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) laws and defending employers in employee disputes.

Illinois Supreme Court appoints Christopher Bonjean as Director of Communications

Christopher BonjeanThe Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Christopher Bonjean as Director of the Office of Communications and Public Information, effective October 3, 2016. He will head a newly reorganized communications operation, which has been charged with developing strategies to inform and educate a diverse public about the judicial branch of state government and promote public confidence in the administration of justice.

Chief Justice Rita Garman explained that the impetus to expand and emphasize the public information function came, in part, from the results of a survey conducted in the spring of 2015. Under the leadership of Fourth District Appellate Justice Carol Pope, chairperson of the Court’s Strategic Planning Committee, the survey was carried out in every courthouse in the state. Questionnaires were distributed to all users of the court facility including parties, witnesses, jurors, and other visitors.

UChicago Law School Dean and Jenner & Block Litigation Chair Open US Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic

Craig C. Martin, Thomas J. Miles, Sarah M. Konsky and David StraussJenner & Block and the University of Chicago Law School are pleased to announce the opening of the Jenner & Block University of Chicago Law School Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic, a rigorous education and training program for University of Chicago law students to help litigate cases before the United States' highest court.

The Clinic represents parties and amici curiae in cases before the US Supreme Court and other appellate courts. Students participate in the researching and drafting of merits briefs, amicus briefs, and cert petitions, conduct research on cases that may be suitable to bring to the Court, and help prepare and participate in oral arguments.  Assistance is provided pro bono.  Although the Clinic's focus is the US Supreme Court, the Clinic may also handle cases at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Illinois Supreme Court.

Friedman takes on dual counsel roles with Fox Rothschild and Core Spaces in Chicago

Hunter Nominated to the Art Institute of Chicago's Leadership Advisory Committee

The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that Chicago partner Steven Hunter has been nominated to the Leadership Advisory Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In 1994, the Art Institute established a committee comprised of African-American community leaders with the mission to promote and sustain diversity within the institution. Launched with a grant from the Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Fund, the initiative continues today as the Leadership Advisory Committee (LAC).

Hon. Bernthal joins ADR Systems

Hon. David G. BernthalFor more than 21 years, the Hon. David G. Bernthal, a popular federal magistrate judge, presided over thousands of cases at the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois. During his time on the bench, Judge Bernthal was praised by the legal community for his skills as a jurist, often being described as both a learned scholar and an efficient administrator. 

As a magistrate judge, he worked to mediate and settle many of the cases on his calendar. The unique settlement skill of a magistrate judge is critical to driving the federal court docket forward efficiently. Cases that need to be heard can come before a judge in a timely manner.
