A benefit to support a summer judicial internship program for qualified law students will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, by the Lawyer's Auxiliary Committee of the Illinois Judges Foundation. The Foundation fund-raiser "Batter Up for Justice" will take place at the Lakeview Baseball Club, 3633 N. Sheffield. It will begin at 11:05 a.m., one hour before the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds. The admission fee of $150 per person includes admission and an open bar throughout the game. Reservations may be made by calling (312) 554-2008 or e-mailing ijf@chicagobar.org. Sponsorships at various levels are available. The event is open to the public, but space is limited. A portion of each contribution is tax-deductible. The Judges Foundation, a Platinum Sponsor of the American Bar Association Judicial Intern Opportunity Program, has enlisted the participation of 54 federal and state judges who preside in courtrooms around the state. The full-time, minimum six-week internships are available to first- and second-year law students who qualify because of minority status or financial need. The interns receive stipends for living expenses. "The Judicial Intern Opportunity Program is intended to provide unique  experiences to law students from groups that are traditionally under-represented in the profession," said Cook County Judge Jesse G. Reyes, president of the Foundation. In case the ballgame is postponed, a rain date of Oct. 4 has been scheduled.
