New attorneys were admitted to practice in Illinois on Nov. 9 at six separate locations across the state. The Fifth Judicial District was split into two sessions. The second ceremony at 3:00 p.m. was held at the University of Illinois School of Law Auditorium, 504 East Pennsylvania Avenue, in Champaign. Illinois State Bar Association Secretary Wesley Gozia spoke at the ceremony.

The ISBA’s Rural Practice Initiative Committee created the Rural Practice Fellowship Program in 2020 to increase access to attorneys in rural areas of Illinois. The aim of the Program is to connect rural and small-town attorneys and law firms looking to hire summer law clerks and full-time associates with law students and attorneys interested in practicing law in rural communities in Illinois.

Justice David K. Overstreet of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to 50 new lawyers between two bar admission ceremonies on Thursday, November 9, in the Fifth Judicial District.

Justice Lisa Holder White of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to 55 new lawyers on Thursday, November 9, in the Fourth Judicial District.

The bar admission ceremonies for the 1,360 new attorneys who passed the July 2023 Bar Exam will be held on Thursday, November 9, in all five judicial districts of Illinois. These will be the first bar admission ceremonies held in-person since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The undergraduate Mock Trial Team for the University of Illinois is hosting its 16th Annual Illinois Invitational Tournamenton October 14 - 15, 2023, at the Urbana-Champaign campus. The Illinois Trial Team is in need of Central Illinois lawyers to judge the tournament on both Saturday (10/14) and Sunday (10/15).

The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice (ATJ Commission) is seeking two volunteer members to serve on its Forms Committee. The expected term of service is three years.
