Allen C. Engerman 1934 - 2022

Allen C. Engerman, died peacefully on September 28, 2022, in Reseda, CA.

Born in Chicago in 1934 to Dr. Max Engerman and Dorothy Hirsch Engerman, Allen was an ace student graduating from University High School and then attaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his JD from the University of Chicago. During this time he served in the Air Force reserves.

Upon graduating law school, Allen joined the Cook County prosecutor's office successfully prosecuting organized and street crime. Subsequently he entered private practice as a corporate litigator where he specialized in complex litigation. Ultimately, he formed his own firm where he helped launch Oprah Winfrey's syndicated talk show and advanced copyright infringement litigation against popular musicians the Bee Gees, representing a local Chicago musician. Allen finished his legal career by founding a company that audited and recovered retirement funds on behalf of retirees on fixed incomes with limited means.

Allen was a prolific supporter of the democratic party, the State of Israel, and his temple, North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe.

Allen married Nancy R. Ruskin in 1977. Their marriage lasted 13 years, and she died in 1990. He is survived by sons, David Engerman, Jeffrey Engerman (Laura), Steven Nataupsky (Nicole), Tong Tran (Uyen), and Vincent Tran (Hieu), and daughters Julie Engerman, Alissa McGowan, Khan Tran (Minh), Susan Tran (Pho), and Alicia Tran (Nick). He is also survived by five grandchildren Max, Megan, Nicholas, Luke, Jack, and Rachel, and also by his brother, Jerome Engerman.
