Laura Kay Berry 1959-2023

Laura Kay Berry, 64, of Springfield, died at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at her residence.

Laura was born on March 12, 1959, in Springfield, the daughter of Donald and Beverly (Fryhoff) Skeels. She married John Berry on April 11, 1987, in Springfield.

Laura attended Brown’s Business College, earning her degree in court reporting. She was an Official Court Reporter for the State of Illinois, working at the Sangamon County Courthouse for 44 years, and she was going to retire in July 2023. Laura was an avid Chicago Bears fan, Jeep enthusiast, and enjoyed flower gardening. She adored her family and was a very giving person. Laura was a sports mom and Nonni who enjoyed attending all their sporting events. She was the ultimate hostess and was delighted to have family and friends over to swim in their pool. She also enjoyed any beach vacation but had a special love for Ft. Myers Beach.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Laura is survived by her husband, John of Springfield; daughters, Elyse (Ryan) Berry of Kinmundy, IL, and Emma Berry of Springfield; her mother, Beverly Chilovich of Springfield; grandchildren, Adelyn, Lakyn, Briggs, and Hudson; siblings, Jeffrey Skeels of Sherman, and Lezlie (David) Brannan of Bloomington; half-sister, Jessica Call of Springfield; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her life long best friend and sister in law, Jill McCurley.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Laura was happiest with her toes in the water and her ass in the sand. She will be truly missed.
