Biography
Mark D. Weis is a Commercial and Technology Counsel with more than 20 years of experience advising manufacturing, technology, and enterprise organizations on complex commercial contracting, intellectual property, and information technology matters. He serves as fractional and embedded counsel to companies that need sophisticated contract and technology support without adding full-time internal legal overhead. He also assists startups, nonprofits, and individuals with focused, practical legal help when the matter aligns with his practice. Clients value his ability to translate complex legal structures into clear, actionable business decisions. Representative clients have included Fortune 100 manufacturers, global financial services companies, technology platforms, and public sector entities.
Mark’s practice focuses on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating enterprise commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS and cloud arrangements, master services agreements, licensing structures, data protection and cybersecurity terms, vendor and supply chain contracts, and related risk allocation frameworks. He brings deep clause-level experience developed during his tenure as Global Information Technology Counsel and Senior Patent Attorney at Deere & Company, a Fortune 100 manufacturer, where he supported global IT and intellectual property transactions at enterprise scale. Over the course of his career, he has supported hundreds of complex commercial and technology agreements across domestic and international operations.
In addition to enterprise commercial work, Mark advises clients on intellectual property protection, licensing, and enforcement strategy, including patent and trademark prosecution, copyright matters, trade secrets, cease and desist enforcement, and technology-driven brand strategy. He also supports startups, nonprofits, and religious organizations with entity formation, governance structuring, intellectual property strategy, and commercial contracting.
Mark began his career at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, where he handled intellectual property litigation and prosecution before moving in-house. His combined law firm, Fortune 100 in-house, and entrepreneurial experience allows him to deliver practical, business-aligned advice grounded in operational realities.
He is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in multiple federal courts. He holds a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University.
