Record contained sufficient evidence to support I.J.’s denial of petitioner’s application for asylum relief, even though petitioner claimed that he faced persecution if forced to return to Kyrgyzstan, where he had previously protested government mining rights deal. I.J could properly deny asylum application, where petitioner’s testimony contained serious inconsistencies that went directly to extent of his alleged persecution and threat he could face if he were sent back to Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, record contained inconsistency as to whether local police ever tortured petitioner when he was taken to police station. Also, while petitioner submitted letters from his wife, brother, fellow protester and his lawyer in Kyrgyzstan, said documents introduced more inconsistencies about alleged persecution that weakened his application for asylum relief.
