Defendant was found guilty of multiple violations of federal law in conjunction with overseas travel during which he engaged in sexual conduct with a minor. On appeal, defendant challenged the district court’s admission of a foreign birth certificate to prove the minor’s age, the admission of a digital copy of a recorded interview of the defendant, and the sufficiency of the evidence. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that the district court did not abuse its wide discretion in admitting the government birth certificate into evidence or, in the alternative, that any error was harmless, that defendant waived any objection to the admissibility of his recorded statement, and that the evidence was sufficient to establish defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
