N.D. Ill., Western Div.

Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois, alleging that Illinois’ Firearm Concealed Carry Act, which forbids licensees from carrying firearms on public transportation with an exception for unloaded and stored firearms, violates the Second Amendment. The district court agreed, and the State appealed. The Seventh Circuit reversed, finding that while the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to self-defense, it does not bar the people’s representatives from enacting laws that ensure public transportation systems remain free from accessible firearms.
