Plaintiff, an inmate at a state correctional facility, filed a lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 alleging that a dentist and dental assistant were deliberately indifferent to his need for dental care. The district court found that plaintiff failed to exhaust his administrative remedies and granted summary judgment. On appeal, the Seventh Circuit reversed in part and affirmed in part, finding that plaintiff’s grievance provided sufficient notice to prison officials of his complaint of inadequate care and, as a result, the district court erred in granting summary judgment on the grounds that he had failed to exhaust his administrative remedies under the Prison Litigation Reform Act.
