Federal 7th Circuit Court
Civil Court
Civil Rights Act
Plaintiff filed a lawsuit under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act alleging that she was sexually harassed by a coworker at the defendant’s factory and that the defendant failed to promptly investigate her allegations. The district court granted summary judgment for the defendant and plaintiff appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that while a jury could reasonably find that the harassment amounted to a hostile work environment a reasonable jury could not conclude that the defendant was negligent in fulfilling its responsibilities in responding to plaintiff’s complaints.
