Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit after their employment as correctional officers was terminated for violating correction department rules by using force on a non-cooperative inmate when it was not yet required. Plaintiffs alleged in the lawsuit that the rule was unconstitutionally vague and that the defendants violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights to due process of law. The district court granted summary judgment in favor of the defendants and plaintiffs appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that the “use force only as a last resort” rule was not unconstitutionally vague and that the district court did not err in granting summary judgment for the defendants.
