Federal 7th Circuit Court
Civil Court
Qualified Immunity
The estate of the decedent filed a section 1983 lawsuit against several defendants, including a city, county, and police officers, after the decedent died in police custody, alleging excessive use of force and failure to provide medical care. The plaintiff also filed a failure-to-train claim. The district court granted summary judgment for the police officers, city and county and plaintiff appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that no reasonable jury could find in the plaintiff’s favor and that the officers were entitled to qualified immunity. (BRENNAN and LEE, concurring)
