Defendant, then age 17 was convicted, after jury trial, of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of an 11-year-old boy, and sentenced to 4 years. Conviction triggered mandatory lifetime sex offender registration under Sex Offender Registration Act. Delay of Defendant's probable cause determination beyond 48 hours was not the result of willful disregard, indifference to Defendant's presence in custody, or product of police misconduct. Officer explained that delay was due to his intent to corroborate Defendant's account with statements from victim and other child witnesses. Defendant was not subject to exclusive jurisdiction of Juvenile Court Act when he was questioned by police, as he was not under age 17. Victim testified credibly to incident, and Defendant confessed in writing. Challenge to SORA fails to invoke powers of a reviewing court, as SORA, not the trial court, imposes obligation to register as a sex offender. (MIKVA and PIERCE, concurring.)
