Respondent appealed from a medication order entered pursuant to the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code finding him subject to the involuntary administration of psychotropic medication. The appellate court reversed, finding that the case involved “multiple flagrant violations” of the Code’s requirements including that the expert testimony was “minimal at best” and that the hearing was “extremely truncated” and lasted just 17 minutes. The appellate court noted that the Code’s procedural safeguards are “essential tools" to ensure that the liberty interests of respondents are upheld. (CATES and BARBERIS, concurring)
