Illinois Appellate Court
Criminal Court
Defendant appealed from his conviction for first-degree murder arguing that the State failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was not justified in the amount of force that he used to protect a shed from burglary, that the State committed error during closing argument, that the jury was presented with improper and prejudicial evidence, that he was denied the effective assistance of counsel, and that the trial court failed to admonish defendant of his right to testify in his own defense. The appellate court affirmed, finding that the evidence was sufficient to support the verdict and the trial court did not err in the admission of evidence or instruction to the jury.
