In re Marriage of Stine

Respondent appealed from an order of the trial court ordering that he pay maintenance to his ex-wife for a period of seven years. Respondent argued on appeal that the trial court erroneously concluded that the petitioner was unable to obtain an income-paying job due to the time and effort she must expend to care for the parties’ disabled child. The appellate court affirmed, finding that the trial court’s order was not against the manifest weight of the evidence and that the trial court did not abuse its discretion by considering the petitioner’s inability to work when reviewing the statutory maintenance factors.
