Illinois Appellate Court
Civil Court
Termination of Parental Rights
Respondent appealed from the trial court’s termination of her parental rights, arguing that the trial court’s unfitness and best interest findings were against the manifest weight of the evidence. The appellate court affirmed, finding that the rulings were not against the weight of the evidence where respondent made little progress during the nine-month period after the adjudication of abuse or neglect and where the best interest factors favored termination of respondent’s parental rights so that the minor child could be adopted by his foster parents, especially where the foster parents testified they intended to maintain contact with respondent.
