Defendant was found guilty of two counts of aggravated kidnapping and 12 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to 96 years in prison. On appeal, defendant claimed that the trial court abused its discretion when it rejected his request to substitute counsel prior to trial, that the trial court erred in denying defendant’s pretrial motion to suppress the identification testimony of the two victims, and that the defendant’s sentence was excessive where he was 23 years old at the time of the offense and had rehabilitative potential. The appellate court affirmed, finding defendant’s arguments to lack merit. (MITCHELL and WILSON, concurring)
