Respondent appealed from the juvenile court’s order adjudicating two minors to be abused or neglected under the Juvenile Court Act based on an injurious environment and a substantial risk of physical injury. Respondent argued on appeal that the trial court’s findings that the minors were abused or neglected were against the manifest weight of the evidence and that the trial court abused its discretion when it denied respondent’s request to compel the appearance of the minors at the adjudicatory hearing. The appellate court affirmed, finding that the evidence presented at the adjudicatory hearing firmly established that the minors were neglected and abused and that the record supported the trial court’s finding that it was not in the best interest of the minors to be compelled to testify or provide depositions.
