Illinois Appellate Court
Civil Court
Right to Counsel
Respondent appealed from a trial court order finding her unfit and making her minor children wards of the court. Respondent argued on appeal that the trial court erred when it denied her request for court-appointed counsel and in denying a continuance on the adjudicatory hearing. The appellate court vacated the adjudicatory and dispositional orders, finding that the trial court erred when it denied respondent’s request for counsel when that request was timely made.
