Illinois’ assault weapons ban upheld by appeals court as U.S. Supreme Court mulls Cook County’s prohibition

The Supreme Court likely will have the final say on whether there is a Constitutional right to possess assault weapons — and whether Illinois’ ban ultimately survives. The high court is on track to rule around the five-year anniversary of the mass shooting at the 2022 Highland Park Fourth of July parade.
