It’s Going to Be a Great Midyear

Midyear Meeting to address physical and mental wellness.

James F. McCluskey

The 2018 Joint Meeting/Midyear Meeting will kick off on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago and conclude with a meeting of the ISBA Assembly on Saturday, Dec. 8. There will be activities for all ISBA members. In keeping with the presidential theme, the ISBA will host a special CLE seminar on health and wellness.

The Health & Wellness Committee, chaired by the Hon. Kenneth Wright, is planning a panel discussion to be held during the Midyear featuring Lester Munson, an attorney, sportswriter, legal analyst, and Lawyers' Assistance Program (LAP) volunteer; Joshua Lifrak, director of the Chicago Cubs' Mental Skills Program, which assists players with stress issues; and Chet Coppock, a Chicago sportswriter who will discuss substance abuse and mental health.

The ISBA will promote physical fitness throughout the entire Midyear Meeting, including spin and cross-fit classes at the Union League Club, which will offer ISBA members reduced rates. Yoga sessions, meditation through deep-breathing exercises, and Pilates sessions emphasizing core strengthening will be offered at the hotel. Please look for more information about these opportunities on the ISBA website in the near future.

During the Midyear Meeting, our cohost, the Illinois Judges Association, in partnership with ISBA, will present a comprehensive seminar on forms of alternative-dispute resolution, including binding arbitration and mediation.

Of course, all section councils and committees will meet and conduct their business activities during the Midyear as well. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Palmer House Hilton and I wish you all good health and much happiness during the holiday season.
