Illinois Appellate Court
Civil Court
Illinois Police Training Act
The Illinois appellate court considered the appeal of a case involving the termination of a police officer. Defendant represented the officer through the grievance process after the officer was terminated and the arbitrator found that the plaintiff lacked just cause to terminate the officer’s employment and ordered the village to reinstate the officer. The circuit court confirmed the award and plaintiff appealed. The appellate court affirmed the trial court and confirmed the arbitrator’s award, finding that there is no blanket prohibition on the employment of police officers found to be dishonest and that the plaintiff failed to demonstrate that the arbitrator’s ruling violated public policy.
