Plaintiff filed a lawsuit asserting several statutory and common-law claims under Illinois law alleging economic, professional, emotional, and reputational harm caused by defendant’s social media posts on a dating site about the plaintiff’s alleged actions. The district court granted the defendant’s motion to dismiss and plaintiff appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that plaintiff failed to offer “even colorable grounds” for reversing the claims against the defendant and further found that plaintiff’s brief contained fictitious quotations, citations, and claims that should have been avoided with routine cite-checking and ordered plaintiff and his attorneys to show cause as to whey they should not face sanctions for frivolously appealing the dismissal of defendant’s claims.
