Plaintiff alleged that her employer violated Title VII and the Fourteenth Amendment by demoting her to a different position after she refused to adopt an “equity mindset” in her employment. The district court entered summary judgment for the defendants on that claim and plaintiff appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, noting that plaintiff did not present any evidence that race caused her demotion and that plaintiff admitted that her employer would have demoted any employee, regardless of race, if they refused to adopt an equity mindset. The Seventh Circuit further remanded the case for plaintiff’s additional claim that her employer violated her First Amendment rights. (BRENNAN and JACKSON-AKIWUMI, concurring)
