Federal 7th Circuit Court
Criminal Court
Supervised Release
After defendant violated the conditions of his supervised release, the district court revoked his supervision and imposed 24 months in prison without a new term of supervised release to follow. In a subsequent written order, the court imposed a condition requiring defendant to be registered with local law enforcement agencies prior to his release. On appeal, defendant argue that the court relied on inaccurate information at sentencing and that it did not have the authority to impose the condition on his release. The Seventh Circuit affirmed as modified, finding that while the district court did not rely on inaccurate information during sentencing it exceeded its authority by imposing the condition upon defendant’s release.
