Defendant was convicted, after bench trial, of DUI. The independent corroborating evidence was sufficient to satisfy the corpus delicti rule, as it corresponded with the circumstances of Defendant's out-of-court statements and tended to connect Defendant to the commission of DUI.Thus, Defendant's admissions were properly considered by the court along with the independent evidence. A reasonable trier of fact could find that this evidence was sufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Defendant drove a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. (CARTER, concurring; McDADE, dissenting.)
